Requirements
Courses
EU-DP Graduate Diploma classes cover a wide range of subjects including: the fundamental perspectives of the EU’s distinctive institutional structure and purpose; economics; law; political science; history; sociology; environmental studies; public health; agriculture; and science and technology.
The EU-DPs consist of a wide range of courses.
Among them, there are courses that are specifically about the EU while others deal with themes which are not related directly to the EU but are important to get to know the EU.

Credits
8 credits are required
1. 4 credits must be from the EU-DPs offerings at any of the consortium universities.
2. 4 credits must be a research paper or a master’s thesis on an EU-related topic.
Note
- A minimum of two semesters is required to complete the EU-DPs.
- Some coursework completed in the past (i.e., courses which currently appear on the list of EU-DPs courses) may be used toward the EU-DPs.
- A master's or graduation thesis may be submitted in lieu of the research paper if it is EU-related.
- IMPORTANT: Please check with your home university
if you wish to use this credit toward your degree.
- Students of KU Economics Faculty: EU-DPs credit from SGU and FWU may not be used toward your degree in economics.
Research Paper
A research paper, written in Japanese or English, must be submitted to complete their requirements for the Graduate Diploma in EU Studies. This paper must focus on an EU-related matter and be discussed within the context of one or more academic disciplines. In lieu of a separate research paper, students may submit a master’s thesis. The paper may not be applied towards their credits for graduation. It will be approved for the Diploma in EU Studies only.
RP format:
1) Please follow the format requirements indicated by your department for your master's thesis.
2) Paper length should be approximately half the length of the minimum requirement of your master's thesis.

*2 If you make any changes to the title of your research paper after the proposal is approved by the committee, you will have to submit the “Research Paper Title Change Form”.
Steps for RP submission
1)
Register the research paper by submitting an EU-DPs registration form by the closing date of the year in which you wish to submit a RP.
2)
Submit a Research Paper Proposal by the closing date.
3)
After approval of your RP proposal by the EUIJ-Kyushu Committee, submit a research paper by the deadline.(Your EU-DPs credits will be approved after screening by the EUIJ-Kyushu Committee.)

1) Download the Research Paper Proposal form.
2) There are two options for the proposal submission deadline:
Choose either
(a) Friday, June 14, 2013 (in this case, you will submit a research paper in August 2013 or February 2014)
OR -- KU and FWU students only
(b) Friday, November 15, 2013 -- (in this case, you will submit a research paper in February 2014)

(a) Spring Semester: Monday, August 26, 2013 -- KU and FWU students only

Congratulations to Kyushu University graduate student, Mr. Jason Douglas Hitch! His research paper entitiled, "Can the Utilisation of a Pluralistic Definition of Death Increase Rates of Organ Donation / Transplantation in the United Kingdom and the Broader European Union?" has been recognized as an EU Research Award of Excellence for the EU-DPs 2012 Spring Semester.
